Service Description

Quarry Collective is for young people aged 11-18years Led by the two Abi's, local artists with a passion for sharing! They will encourage experimentation through materials and process. Our aim is to deliver fun sessions where everyone is valued, with zero pressure. The group will help with confidence and understanding of a variety of art techniques - drawing/mark making, printmaking, paint, mixed media, collage, lens based investigations and 3D approaches such as clay and found objects. This class will not be asking for 'photo realist' drawing or school curriculum based 'need to copy' - in fact it will be focusing on being spontaneous and inquisitive without the worry of finish or perfection. We will see how materials work together to create beautiful textures, surfaces and forms. The course will use unusual references as our starting point. This will take away the anxiety of perfection as it will be about creating textures both dry and wet materials. We will also explore sculptural approaches to making. The group will collaborate on a 3D Christmas scene as part of the Quarry Chapel's 3D Advent boxes, which delight the community each December - we are excited to see what they come up with! Our small group ensures that no one is over whelmed, we love to chat and laugh while making cool stuff! It is ideal for anyone who loves art and being creative, who wants to investigate, explore and experiment without worry. Warning - you could get messy - please wear appropriate clothing/apron! The chapel offers small groups (our exercise classes have a max 8 participants and creative 10) in a supportive and caring environment; we always use lovely materials and tea/squash/snacks are available. We rely completely on grants and donations - we have two subsidised tiers, plus a chance for you to donate £12 towards the true cost of the course. If you can afford to do so it will enable us to support future classes and widen our work in the community. So far this year each class has been costing us an average of £19.56 per person to run - these costs are due to rise this term. The Quarry Chapel never wants anyone who would like to take part not to do so due to prohibitive costs. Please email Abi Nicol - Development Worker (thequarrychapel@gmail.com) to discuss our bursaries.
